The Community of Practice on Sustainability in Healthcare Procurement builds on the foundation of the finalized EU project Procure4Health (P4H) and aims to create lasting frameworks for sustainable procurement across Europe.
This collaborative initiative brings together healthcare purchasers and industry to co-develop consensus-based sustainability criteria, with a current focus on medical devices.
Sustainable procurement goes beyond environmental concerns. It encompasses economic, social, and environmental value, encouraging purchasing decisions that balance cost-efficiency, long-term outcomes, and system-wide impact. It prioritizes overall value not just the lowest price by promoting responsible sourcing, reducing waste, and ensuring that procurement decisions contribute positively to patient care, workforce wellbeing, and public health.
